SEO Glossary > SERP Volatility

SERP Volatility

SERP volatility refers to the volatility in a website’s rankings on the search engine results pages (SERP). Although website rankings are constantly changing in search engine results pages, website rankings are generally at their most volatile during Google algorithm updates. What’s more, it’s important for an SEO to keep an eye on SERP volatility as these fluctuations can significantly affect a website’s organic traffic.

How do I check SERP volatility?

There are many tools that can be used to check daily SERP volatility. For instance, the Rank Ranger Rank Risk Index tracks the daily SERP volatility and presents these fluctuations in a bar graph that represents both mobile and desktop results pages. The fluctuations are measured on a scale of 1 to 100. With 100 being the maximum levels of volatility and 1 being the minimum.
